Spijkers was a garage punk band with which Danny played guitar, that had started in 1979 in Haarlem as a punk band and went through numerous line-ups since.
The early February 2008 addition of Danny to the line-up of Spijkers was a result of the merging of Spijkers with the rock band Owen Meany that he was playing guitar for at the time. The other members of this new line-up were 1979 founder and guitarist Pim Scheelings, vocalist Lonneke (former Owen Meany guitarist, later in Helleveeg), bassist Ernesto (former Owen Meany bassplayer, and also guitarist/frontman for a.o. Strychnine and later Black Tarantula) and drummer Niels (drummer for a.o. Strychnine, and later in Batwölf). The version of Spijkers with Danny in the line-up had their first gig on March 15, 2008, at the Bazart venue in Den Haag.
Between March 26 and April 9 drums and guitars for about five songs were recorded at the rehearsal room on studio equipment. After the May gig Niels left the band and got replaced by Gerrit (at the time Caitlin guitarist and vocalist). The recordings were finished by late July, after which four songs were posted at the Spijkers Myspace page. Throughout 2008 Spijkers played frequently in the Amsterdam-Den Haag area, with a.o. Stealers, Rene SG, The Fuck Emos (US), Sundust (Austria), Godver and Drive By Vendettas. In December the band continued with a new line-up. Danny did his final Spijkers gig on November 22, 2008, at Bar&Boos in Leiden.
